Vanessa Papastavros, mostly known as Van Scribbles, is an artists that promotes a healthy beauty image and one of our inspirations. Her art is based on comebacks to people that criticise other's looks. Art is one of the most powerful tools to communicate a message. Van's purpose is to illustrate the importance of feminism and a positive body image. She talks from experience, which makes her art way more personal and easy to connect. As a way of catharsis, Vanessa has been using art to express her ideas and views. In a interview from the website Proud2bme, she explains her love for drawing, but not until her final year of highschool Van "took things more seriously". Body acceptance is important to me because it is not a message that people hear enough, especially for women. I want this culture to change.- Vanessa Papastavros In the same interview, Vanessa explains how both physical and mental health are crucial for a positive body image. We need to accept and valorise who we are, however it shouldn't be the most important thing in our lives. As Van says "there are more important things than beauty and let’s not forget that. Good mental and physical health should be the top priorities". We spend too much energy in the body-positive community trying to convince everyone that they’re beautiful, rather than deconstructing the idea that we should be valuing beauty in the first place" Check out Vanessa's art on her tumblr page and be sure to go through the body positive tag! Here are some of my favourites. -Mafer
